How did this happen?
On September 30th, 2020, the working agreement between Minor League Baseball and Major League Baseball expired.  Major League Baseball has a new vision for how minor league baseball will operate, allowing all MLB teams to choose their affiliates that work best for them.  The New York Yankees approached the Somerset Patriots for consideration.  The field conditions, proximity to Yankee Stadium, ballpark upgrades, the strength and conditioning facility and ownership were all factors that played into the Yankees final decision.

 

What level of play are the Somerset Patriots?
The Somerset Patriots are the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees.
 
 
What is Double-A Baseball?
Double-A is the second highest level of play in Minor League Baseball after Triple-A.  The Double-A level usually hosts young, developing players that have been part of professional baseball for a few years. You will often find that many Double-A players advance to Major League Baseball directly from this level of play. In addition to being able to watch New York Yankees prospects at the ballpark, you will have the benefit of seeing future stars from other teams as well as they visit, such as the Mets, Phillies and Red Sox.
 
 
What league do the Somerset Patriots play?
The Somerset Patriots will start play in the league designated as Double-A by MLB, last year the Eastern League, beginning in the Spring of 2021.
 
When will the schedule be announced?
The Somerset Patriots are waiting for information regarding what the 2021 season schedule looks like. When it is determined by MLB, we will be ready to be distributed and update everyone.
 
How can I get tickets for the upcoming season?
The Somerset Patriots are currently accepting deposits for ticket plans (Full and Half) to secure spots for the 2021 season. More information about plans and pricing will be made available in the coming weeks. Single game ticket information will be available after the schedule is released.
 
What happens if I had tickets or plans from previous New York Yankees affiliates for 2020/2021?
Fans that had ticket plans or tickets from other organizations affiliated with the New York Yankees previously will need to address concerns with those organizations. The Somerset Patriots are separate from any prior New York Yankees affiliate and will continue to be so moving forward. No team is moving here or vice versa in this new partnership with the New York Yankees.
 
Who owns the Somerset Patriots?
The Somerset Patriots are owned by the Kalafer family, who have owned the franchise through its entire history. The ownership roles are Chairman Emeritus Steve Kalafer and Co-Chairmen Jonathan and Josh Kalafer.
 
Who will play for the Somerset Patriots?
The Somerset Patriots will be made up of players from and assigned to the team by the New York Yankees. The Yankees have complete control over the roster and coaching staff of the Somerset Patriots. The goal for the organization is to provide the best facility and staff to develop and advance the careers of the minor leaguers playing in Somerset. Past Somerset Patriots players become free agents to sign elsewhere after each season and will be able to do so this off-season.
 
Will Brett Jodie be the manager?
The New York Yankees will determine their manager and coaching staff for the Somerset Patriots. At this, Brett Jodie will not be the manager of the team.
 
Will Sparky Lyle still be involved?
Sparky Lyle will still be at TD Bank Ballpark for games and a part of the Somerset Patriots in his role as a community ambassador.
 
Will the team change its name or logo?
We will remain the Somerset Patriots moving forward. There are no plans of changing our team name or branding at this time.
 
Will there be new uniforms and merchandise?
Stay tuned for any information regarding unveiling of new uniforms and Somerset Patriots/ New York Yankees branded merchandise in the coming weeks!
 
What about the Somerset Patriots front office staff?
The front office of the Somerset Patriots will be made up of the familiar faces you have come to know over the past two decades at the ballpark.
 
What improvements according to MLB new standards will be put in place?
The Somerset Patriots will be making several improvements to TD Bank Ballpark to make it the best possible facility for the players, coaches, on-field personnel, and staff. More details of the changes will be coming soon!
 
Will Sparkee still be the mascot?
Sparkee will still be the team's mascot and entertain fans at the ballpark in the community with his best pal Slider.
