All-Decade Team: OF Ramon Flores
Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have announced that Ramon Flores has been selected as one of the outfielders of the 2010-2019 All-Decade Team.
“Somerset was a good place for me. I learned so much and liked playing to win,” said Flores. “It’s a good team and organization. I enjoyed the atmosphere with my teammates and especially the fans that packed the ballpark. That’s what I liked most. Playing in front of people that love the game.”
Flores was in a crowded group of talented players that patrolled the outfield in Somerset over the past ten years. He finished in a tie for second place among the three finalists, two of which are yet to be announced.
Flores began his time in Somerset in early July of 2018 and hit .280 over 55 games with four home runs, 31 RBI and a .337 on-base percentage to finish the season. Additionally, Flores started in all five postseason games, going 6-for-18 (.333) from the plate with a home run, two RBI and three walks that season.
He returned to the Patriots in 2019, where he enjoyed an All-Star campaign before getting his contract purchased by the Minnesota Twins at the end of July.
At the time of his signing to report to Triple-A, Flores ranked among the league leaders in several offensive categories. He was hitting .308 (7th) with a .392 on base percentage (7th), 94 hits (6th), six triples (1st), and 43 walks (6th) in a team-high 83 games played.
The Venezuelan countryman had three years of service at the Major League level before signing to play in Somerset. In his two seasons with the club, Flores hit .297 with 71 runs scored, 157 hits, 31 doubles, seven triples, ten home runs, 78 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 138 games played.
“Ramon Flores is what I think about when I think of a professional Major League hitter,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie. “He always gave a good at bat. Never trying to do too much or getting away from his approach. Ramon has an extremely good eye for the strike zone and does not chase bad pitches. ‘Flo’ also worked hard on his physical fitness to be able to play all three outfield positions at a high level and be a base stealing threat again. Flores has a great arm from the outfield and is very accurate as well. What I loved most about Ramon is that he was the same person every day. A great person and teammate with an outstanding attitude always ready to work hard. We always search for consistency in this game, and really life in general, and he is the definition of that.”
Voting took place online and over 5,000 fans casted their ballots for their favorite players at each position from January 3rd through April 15th. The Somerset Patriots All-Decade Team will be announced over the next few weeks.
