Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots and Hackensack Meridian Health Carrier Clinic will host the first ever Mental Health Awareness Night at TD Bank Ballpark on Saturday, May 11th for the team’s 7:05 pm game against the Lancaster Barnstormers.
“We are happy to host this event with our partners at Hackensack Meridian Health Carrier Clinic during Mental Health Awareness Month,” said Somerset Patriots President/General Manager Patrick McVerry. “Mental health is one of the most important issues we face as a society and everyone needs to learn about the disorders, and more importantly, that there is help for all that need it.”
Mental Health Awareness Night is designed to help draw attention to the fact that one in five Americans – or approximately 43.8 million people - suffer from some form of mental illness in any given year.
Statistics also show that approximately one in 25 adults experiences a serious mental illness in a given year that substantially interferes with or limits life activities. In children, one in five kids ages 13 to 18 suffers a severe mental disorder at some point in their lives. Those disorders range from anxiety, schizophrenia, to bipolar disorder, to stress disorder, to depression, to obsessive compulsive behavior, and others.
“The good news is that effective treatment options are available,” said Donald J. Parker, president of Hackensack Meridian Health Carrier Clinic. “The partnership with the Somerset Patriots is meant to draw attention to and educate the public about what those treatments are and disorders they address.”
Representatives from Hackensack Meridian Health Carrier Clinic will be at the ballpark to distribute information, educate fans, and answer questions regarding treatment options and help available to those that need it.
“We want the citizens of New Jersey to know that the most advanced programs in behavioral health are available to them in their own backyard through the Hackensack Meridian Health Carrier Clinic care system. I hope that residents of the Garden State will come out to learn more on Saturday, May 11.”
In addition to Mental Health Awareness Night, the event features a Fireworks show immediately following the game.
