The Somerset Patriots have several community initiatives

Reading All Stars

Over the past nine seasons, the Somerset Patriots Reading All Stars Program has helped over 40,000 students in the Central New Jersey area better develop their reading skills by actively participating in the campaign.  Students in Kindergarten to Eighth Grade are able to read up to 12 books to earn complimentary Patriots tickets to select home games.  As they progress, students are able to write their completed book title on their personal baseball diamond book log to keep track of their achievements as they work towards their goal.

Summer Reading All Stars

Since partnering with local community libraries five seasons ago, the Somerset Patriots Summer Reading All Stars Program has helped over 33,000 students to continue reading and developing their skills throughout the summer.  Similar to the Reading All Stars Program, students from Kindergarten to Eighth Grade are encouraged to read up to 12 books to earn complimentary Patriots tickets to select home games.  Local librarians are able to guide and assist the students as they complete their baseball diamond book log to earn their Patriots tickets.

Strike Out Bullying Campaign

Launching in February of 2011, the Somerset Patriots Strike Out Bullying Campaign is designed to reinforce the six pillars of character already used in the school systems to remind students of the value of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. By following all of the pillars, students learn the difference between right and wrong and help curb bullying by how they treat one another.

Travis Anderson, who has been a part of the Patriots family since 2006 and helped lead Somerset to back-to-back titles in 2008 and 2009, spearheads the initiative.  Sparkee The Mascot assists Anderson throughout the program, which takes place at local elementary schools throughout the area.

Teachers of the Year

Each season, the Somerset Patriots honor Teachers of the Year from schools in surrounding counties and invite them to attend a Teacher Appreciation Night at TD Bank Ballpark. The Patriots recognize the teachers on the field in a pre-game ceremony on each county’s respective night.  Participating counties include Hunterdon, Middlesex, and Somerset.

Most Improved Student Nights

Beginning in 2012, the Somerset Patriots have partnered with local elementary schools and their teachers to select deserving students to be honored as a “Most Improved Student” on the field before a Patriots game.

Local teachers are able to submit their nomination for a student in their class who has displayed improvement in various areas throughout the school year, including social, behavioral, and academic categories.

Each nominated student receives four complimentary tickets to attend the game. Before the game each student is recognized and presented with a certificate down on the field in a special pre-game ceremony to honor their accomplishments in the classroom.
