Toy Drive Collects Thousands Of Toys For Those Less Fortunate

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots joined forces with Central Jersey Toys For Tots to collect toys for those less fortunate this holiday season.

The team hosted its annual Holiday Toy Drive at TD Bank Ballpark on Saturday, December 10th and opened up the Team Store for the festive occasion.

Fans came out throughout the morning to donate a toy, meet Somerset Patriots Manager Emeritus Sparky Lyle and enjoy the holiday-themed event for a great cause.

“I am always so impressed by the turnout and thankful that we have such generous fans to support this great event each year,” said Lyle who has been at every Somerset Patriots Holiday Toy Drive since the ballpark opened. “I know that the holidays just got a little brighter for those that are in need of some cheer.”

Attendees were able to take pictures with Santa Claus and Somerset Patriots mascots Sparkee and General Admission.

A holiday activity station was set up where kids colored pictures, cut out snowflakes and wrote their Christmas wish lists for Santa.

Toys For Tots’ mission is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.

Their goal is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.

Central New Jersey Toys For Tots serve Union, Middlesex, Somerset and parts of Hunterdon counties in NJ.

“Last year we brought the joy of the holidays to over 40,000 kids in our area,” said CWO4 Nick D'Andrea, Toys for Tots Coordinator, OIC. “These children come from nothing and we want to bring a smile to their faces and reach every possible child. This year looks like we will surpass that 40,000 mark and bring that joy even further.”

The Somerset Patriots led the Atlantic League in attendance in 2016, finished with the best regular season record in the league and made their fourth straight trip to the playoffs. The schedule for the 2017 season, which includes the team’s 20th Anniversary and the 2017 Atlantic League All-Star Game at TD Bank Ballpark, will be released in the coming weeks.
