Waldorf, MD- Somerset Patriots third baseman Jeff Nettles earned the 2009 Championship Series MVP award for his performance this post-season.
Nettles hit .281 with nine runs scored, nine hits, three home runs, and seven RBI in eight post-season games. In the Championship Series, Nettles hit .375 with seven runs scored, three home runs, and six RBI in the four games.
Nettles finished the regular season with a .295 batting average, 75 runs scored, 148 hits, 29 doubles, 15 home runs, and 93 RBI. Nettles led the team in RBI and was tied with first baseman Josh Pressley for the team’s home run lead.
Nettles was named a 2009 Atlantic League Season All-Star earlier in the week and has been selected as an All-Star in each of his six seasons with the team.
He is the Patriots all-time career leader in almost every offensive category including games (666), at bats (2,462), runs scored (432), hits (716), doubles (156), home runs (118), and RBI (470).
The championship win was Nettles’ third in his Patriots career and his second Championship Series MVP, having won the award in 2003. Nettles hit .450, with four runs scored, a home run, and five RBI in that post-season.
