Ducks Double Up Patriots 4-2

Bridgewater, NJ – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 4-2 at TD Bank Ballpark on Monday evening.

The Patriots took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. First baseman Joe Burke singled, catcher Travis Anderson walked, and both scored on a two-run single by left fielder Elliott Ayala.

The Ducks tied up the game with two runs in the top of the third inning. Shortstop Alex Prieto and second baseman Juan Francia both singled and scored on a two-run single by third baseman Matt Cavagnaro.

Long Island took the lead in the top of the seventh inning after catcher John Pachot reached on an error, advanced on a Prieto sacrifice fly, and scored when center fielder Lew Ford singled to make the score 3-2.

The Ducks scored in the top of the eighth inning after first baseman Ray Navarette doubled, reached third on an error, and scored on a sacrifice fly by left fielder Estee Harris for the 4-2 advantage.

Ducks starter Julio Manon (3-1) picked up the win after allowing two earned runs on seven hits in six innings pitched. Patriots starter Kip Bouknight (3-4) suffered the loss after surrendering two earned runs on six hits in seven innings pitched. Ducks reliever Bill Simas earned his 11^th save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.

The 2009 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Tuesday night with a 7:05 pm game against the Long Island Ducks.
