Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots and the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball have announced that the 2017 Atlantic League All-Star Game will feature a Revolutionary War theme to honor the rich history of the area where the event will take place.
The 2017 Atlantic League All-Star Game presented by RWJBarnabas Health and Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey will be hosted at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater on Wednesday, July 12th at 7:05 pm.
The All-Star Game will welcome the brightest stars in the league in the premier event of the summer.
The Somerset Patriots have joined forces with Crossroads of the American Revolution National Heritage Area to add a revolutionary spirit to this year’s Mid-Summer Classic.
This year the first 500 kids will receive a limited edition replica 18th Century felt tri-corner hat. This giveaway is co-sponsored by Elevation Communications and the Somerset Patriots.
Fans will be able to meet General George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and various Revolutionary War figures and soldiers.
Attractions at the ballpark will include a replica cannon, an encampment of reenactors in authentic dress, as well as exhibits of colonial life throughout the concourse.
Entertainment will include colonial dancing, music from the Revolutionary era, soldiers on horseback, and musket drills presented by the 2nd NJ Regiment, Mott’s Artillery, the Queens Rangers and Heard’s Brigade.
Fans at the event will be invited to sign the Declaration of the All-Star Game document and enjoy a turkey leg and ale.
Other demonstrations will include the firing of a Revolutionary War cannon by the Sons of the American Revolution, mock hearth cooking, spinning and weaving demonstrations, 18th century medicine, the Fife and Drums of the Old Barracks, and the Practitioners of Musick.
The Somerset Patriots will also welcome exhibits, games and activities from area museums and organizations including Liberty Hall, the Heritage Trail Association, Washington Crossing Historic Park, Washington Crossing State Park, Lamb’s Artillery, East Jersey Old Town Village, Princeton Battlefield Society, Children of the American Revolution, The Indian King Tavern, the Snyder Academy, and the Jacobus Vanderveer House.
More activities will be announced leading up to the event.
