Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots (12-5) defeated the York Revolution (6-10) 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at TD Bank Ballpark.
York opened the scoring in the first inning on an error, but Somerset tied up the game in the bottom of the frame on an error on a fielder’s choice that let Bryan LaHair reach first safely.
The Patriots claimed the lead for good in the third inning on an RBI double by Justin Pacchioli for a 2-1 advantage.
“With two strikes, I’m just trying to put the ball in play. I’m not trying to do too much,” said Pacchioli. “With my speed, and Scott Kelly on the bases, I just wanted to put the ball in play and make something happen.”
Darren Ford extended Somerset’s lead with a solo home run, his first of the season, in the bottom of the fifth inning.
“I’m just trying to make solid contact. I got a good pitch to hit and I put a good swing on it,” said Ford. “I’m just trying to do my job as a the leadoff guy to get on base and leave the home runs to the big guys behind me.”
Olmo Rosario added a second home run (1) of the game for the Patriots in the bottom of the eighth inning for the 4-1 final.
Logan Darnell (2-1) picked up the win, allowing a run on eight hits in six innings pitched.
