Bridgewater, NJ – The Five-Time Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots have announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Mitch Atkins.
Atkins has Major League experience with the Chicago Cubs and Baltimore Orioles during the 2009-2011 seasons, where he appeared in ten games over that time.
In addition to his Major League time, Atkins also has five seasons of Triple-A experience for both organizations, as well as the Washington Nationals.
He spent last season at Syracuse, the Triple-A level for the Nationals, and finished with a 6-9 record, a 4.87 ERA, and 91 strikeouts in 118.1 innings pitched in 28 games.
“Mitch brings a veteran presence while still being young in age. He has pitched at all levels and has had success. I look forward to having him join our team’s pitching rotation and working with him here in Somerset,” said Brett Jodie, manager of the Somerset Patriots Baseball Club.
He has a minor league career 70-61 record, a 4.44 ERA, and 845 strikeouts in 1,048 innings pitched in 211 games, 185 of them as a star.
